Chemnitz Museum of Industry welcomes its 100,000th visitor

Successful European Capital of Culture year with seven special exhibitions

In the European Capital of Culture year 2025, the Chemnitz Museum of Industry looks back on an exceptionally successful record. On September 24, the museum welcomed its 100,000th visitor, Pia Schneider from Chemnitz - a milestone that impressively highlights the strong public response. To compare: around 62,000 people visited the museum in 2024.

“That we are already getting to celebrate this visitor record shows how strongly the Chemnitz Museum of Industry is perceived in the Capital of Culture year as a central place for encounters, education, and inspiration,” says museum director Jürgen Kabus.

A key factor in this success is the extensive program that makes industrial culture tangible in many ways. In 2025, the museum presented a total of seven special exhibitions. In addition to the major exhibition “Tales of Transformation”, these included “John Cage. Museumcircle”, “fit. A Saxon Success Story”, “Textile? Future!”, “Telephone Stories”, “The Unseen Design Classic”, and the exhibition “Metamorphosis of Workwear”, which opened just this week. This variety attracts families, school classes, international visitors, and professionals alike.

A wide range of events complemented the exhibition program: lectures, discussions, guided tours, and workshops for children and adolescents, as well as major open-air events in the museum’s outdoor area. Collaborations with partner institutions as part of Chemnitz’s European Capital of Culture 2025 further amplified the museum’s impact.

“The Chemnitz Museum of Industry is a lively place of industrial culture that connects past, present, and future. We are delighted that our program has reached and inspired so many people,” emphasizes Kabus.

In view of the strong demand, the museum looks to the coming months with optimism. The success achieved so far highlights the institution’s role as a central player in the Capital of Culture year and as an attractive destination far beyond the region.
