Saxony equips today’s factory
Who else gets the chance to see a modern factory from the inside? Here, you can marvel at machine tools and a body welding line with industrial robots in full operation.
The technology dates from the early 21st century and is therefore not yet truly museum-worthy. However, the comparison of old and modern factory work at this site is highly appealing. Behind the modern exterior of the machinery lies generations of experience from engineers and skilled workers in West Saxon machine and vehicle manufacturing. In this way, Volkswagen Saxony continues the tradition of Auto Union. The milling machine prototype from StarragHeckert has its roots in the Wanderer works, and the serial lathe from Niles-Simmons traces back to the Escher brothers. The corresponding NC controls are developed and built by Siemens at the long-established factory site in Chemnitz.
