Fire and Flame
Around 1900, there were more than 40 iron and steel foundries in Chemnitz. Foundries were also established in other Saxon cities.
Some developed into large-scale enterprises. While many industrial sectors almost completely disappeared after 1990, the foundry industry remained an important part of the Saxon economy, benefiting particularly from the boom in the automotive and mechanical engineering sectors.
Today, the industry is characterized by high specialization, strong connections with universities, and a pronounced sense of tradition. Saxon foundries offer delicate products as well as ton-heavy cast parts in large dimensions. Cast products are indispensable in everyday life.
