Knowing, what is good

175 years of Chemnitz University of Technology

The anniversary exhibition traced the development from 1836 - the founding year of the Royal Trade School in Chemnitz with 14 students - up to today’s modern full university with more than 10,000 students.

A wide range of exhibits brought this development to life. On 600 m², visitors could experience exciting, thought-provoking, and unique displays. Those who wished could embark on several journeys through time—from the drawing board to virtual reality, from the mechanical machine to the energy-autonomous factory, from three-phase current to electricity from a printer, from the old chemistry lab to the modern “Smart Systems Campus,” or from the slide rule to the supercomputer. At the same time, the exhibition illustrated student life across the centuries. All exhibition areas were arranged around the center of university life—the lecture hall—which served both as an exhibit and an event venue.

Young and old alike explored research results from 175 years of university history through a colorful program of popular-science activities. Exciting hands-on stations made the interactive exhibition particularly appealing to younger visitors.
