Schütz, Cage & Röbel in a Metamodern Dialogue
Concert - World premiere
As part of the exhibition *John Cage. museumcircle*, the Chemnitz Museum of Industry invites you to a first concert. Works by Heinrich Schütz, John Cage, and Richard Röbel – world premiere
As part of the Museumcircle accompanying program, AuditivVokal Dresden presents a concert specially curated for Chemnitz, placing the works of three extraordinary composers—Heinrich Schütz, John Cage, and Richard Röbel—into a fascinating metamodern dialogue. This concert transcends boundaries—between eras, religions, and cultures. It is an evening that combines spirituality and artistic innovation while reflecting on universal values and community. As a European Capital of Culture, Chemnitz thus becomes the setting for a unique musical bridge.
Heinrich Schütz, the eminent Saxon court composer of the 17th century, embodies the depth of European musical traditions and the close connection between faith and art with his Geistliche Chor-Musik 1648.
John Cage, the innovative 20th-century avant-gardist, counterpoints Schütz’s music with his radical and playful Song Books, inspired by Eastern philosophy and the ideas of freedom and individuality.
The young composer Richard Röbel from Chemnitz links the musical worlds of Schütz and Cage within a modern soundscape, offering a unique synthesis of past and present.
The program includes Baroque masterpieces such as Schütz’s Also hat Gott die Welt geliebt and Selig sind die Toten, as well as central works from John Cage’s Song Books and his iconic 4’33’’. This unusual combination is complemented by Richard Röbel’s contemporary composition, which reinterprets the humanistic values of music in a new way.
CHEMNITZER KLANGBRÜCKEN transcends boundaries—between eras, religions, and cultures. The evening unites spirituality and artistic innovation while reflecting on universal values and community. Chemnitz thus becomes the scene of a unique musical bridge along the PURPLE PATH sculpture and art trail.
