Artist talk as part of the exhibition “What a mesh!”
On 16 April 2026, the students will present the works shown in the exhibition as part of an artist talk.
Until 9 May 2026, artistic study works on the theme of the “laddered stitch” are on display at the Industriemuseum Chemnitz. Conceived by Silke Trekel and Helen Uhlig, both lecturers in Art Education at Chemnitz University of Technology, the exhibition “What a mesh!” forms part of a collaborative project initiated by curator Susanne Greinke of the Dresden Academy of Fine Arts on the occasion of Chemnitz European Capital of Culture 2025.
Against the backdrop of the region’s industrial history, 21 students from the primary school teaching degree programme at Chemnitz University of Technology engaged both conceptually and artistically with errors and disruptions, as well as with the loss of structure in knitted material. Stockings and tights were transformed into art objects using a wide range of textile techniques.
On 16 April 2026, the students will present the works shown in the exhibition as part of an artist talk. The event will take place at 6.30 pm in the foyer of the Industriemuseum Chemnitz and will be moderated by Professor Steffen Wachter, Chair of Art Education at Chemnitz University of Technology.
